So you have an old house and you want to make improvements. Sure, it may be easy to point out what needs to be repaired and what needs to be added. But it's another thing to actually plan and do what you think you want to do. The most important part of a plan is making a decision and home improvements are always big and tough decisions to make. So what kind of home improvement are you looking to apply to your home? Here is a list of major improvements that you might be interested in. • An extension – The most typical thing that you can do to your house is to add an extension. It could be an extra bedroom, another garage space, or even another kitchen where you can take care of different kinds of cooking duties like barbecuing. Extensions are easy to make and don't require too much material unless it will affect other areas of the house that will need to be changed as well. Now the tricky thing is to make sure that the extension doesn't look like an extension. You might need to hire the services of an architect so that the house extension looks like it has always been there. • A conservatory – Are you looking for more space for the whole family? Think you might need a totally separate space for the children to play in? Then you might want to install a conservatory into your house. Something like a veranda, a conservatory can also be cheap to make. In fact, you won't need too much labor to make this area and the materials you use can be low cost as well. Of course, this depends on the quality of the conservatory that you want. This can add even more value on your home if you do it right and with quality materials. • A loft – Looking to add style to your high-ceiling home? Need a place that is totally separate from the house but is not built outside? A loft is a really great idea for separating a space where you can find privacy. The loft can be an area used as a bedroom or it can also be used as your personal office space. Lofts are quite trendy and are not necessarily a great thing for big families. Make sure that it serves a function; otherwise it's just a total waste of space. • A garage conversion – Think you might need more space in your garage for a new car you are thinking of buying? Or do you just need more space where you can do all your workshop duties? Most garages are only used as storage space these days and although that's one way to get rid of the clutter inside a house, it doesn't help that you merely transfer stuff to another part of the house. A garage can be converted so it can be more than just a place to store boxes of old things. Think of the workshop that you can have or the extra space that you can use as your personal gym. Think of the many spaces that you can convert your old garage into and you should be able to do the conversion at a very low cost. |
