Various areas of the house can be renovated; it can be the bathroom, the kitchen, the living room, the dining room or even the other areas around the house. If you are planning to renovate your bathroom here are some tips. 1. What type of bathroom is it? Is it going to be a family bath where everyone in the family uses it or is going to be a personal bath where only one or two persons use it? Family bathrooms will require a bigger space and its facilities and furnishings should be able to satisfy everyone's taste. The family bath should be versatile enough so that each member will be able to use it according to their needs. For example, if someone in your family uses a wheelchair, then the family bath should have features that allow wheelchairs to move in and out easily. Personal bathrooms are easier to renovate because all you have to think about is one or two persons' preferences and personalities. Personal baths will be able to cater to a certain family member's needs without sacrificing those of others. 2. How big is your current bathroom? If your current bathroom is not big enough for the family bath you are planning, then it might be necessary to take down a bathroom wall considering that the room beside the bathroom is unused. Renovating a bedroom bath won't take that much space as compared to renovating family baths. In relation to this, taking down a wall is not necessary. It is important that you consider the size of your current bathroom so that you will have an idea as to what type of improvement you will be able to do with it. If your bathroom is rather small but can fit a bath tub, then you might want to pick a tub that is big enough for the bath. 3. Do you have enough storage space? If your current bathroom is a mess because you have inadequate storage spaces, then during renovation you might want to add more cabinets and drawers where you can place your towels and other toiletries. The clutter in the bathroom does not only reduce space, it also increases the risk for accidents. The cabinets should be big or small enough to accommodate the items you need to store. It should be compact enough so that you still have enough space in the bathroom. It is also not a good idea to fill the bath with wall mounted cabinets. 4. What color do you want or does your family want? If it is for a family bath, then you might want to ask each family member about their preference in color. Each member might give a different answer so be ready to compromise. Do not paint the bathroom unless you reach a common ground with the family members. If it is for a personal bath, then all you have to do is ask the one who is going to use it. Remember that the bathroom is going to be used by him or her so it is important that he or she is satisfied with the new look of her bath. 5. How much is your budget? You cannot simply do a home improvement project without considering your budget. If you know how to save on bathroom remodeling, then you might end up saving extra money even after the project has been completed. The budget will also ensure that you complete your project because if you don't set a budget your project might end up unfinished. |
